The much dreaded colder Winter months are finally here! Can you believe it, how did that happen?! It feels like we blinked and Summer was over! It's time to look out your scarves, long sleeved jumpers, boots and cosy fluffy socks and practically live in them from now until at least late spring next year! For those who are regular to waxing, you may be thinking that the cold winter days and nights is reason enough to neglect your hair removal routine You won't have your legs out or be off to the beach anytime soon when it's so cold and miserable out there, so why would you bother with hair removal as often or at all through Winter?! Let us tell you why you should keep up waxing in Winter, or if you don't wax already, why Winter is the best time to begin waxing in preparation for Summer 2019!
When it comes to waxing, it is important you try your best to keep to a routine. We know how tempting it can be to let your waxing regime slip in the colder months where it may seem senseless to be hair free but it is vital that you do not interrupt your hair's growth cycle. Did you know, by keeping up your waxing routine throughout this half of the year is more beneficial to you than you think? By sticking to a routine of waxing every 4-6 weeks regardless of the time of year, you will be weakening the hair follicles and the hair will therefore grow back at a much slower rate, resulting in a longer period of time before you need to make your next appointment. So realistically, if you start your waxing now, by the time Summer arrives you will be able to enjoy being hair free and smooth for much longer in the months you want to most!
Dry skin is a nightmare in the Winter - I'm sure we can all relate! Waxing exfoliates and encourages the renewal of skin cells that can cause dry skin. This will keep your skin healthy and hydrated which is a bonus as well as being totally hair free! However, you should never use waxing as a replacement for exfoliation completely. It is still as important to keep your skin fresh and exfoliated throughout winter too at home! We recommend you try using the Ruff Stuff Body Scrub which we stock in the salon. This is a natural sugar scrub which can be used anywhere on your body, and works excellent both pre/post wax as well as in between your waxing appointments!
We have one more reason as to why it us best to keep to a strict waxing routine which you were probably unaware of. Tights are bought by almost every girl at this time of the year! They are a staple in our drawers during Winter and so easy to throw on in the mornings. However who wants unsightly leg hair poking through your tights?! What you probably did not know is that wearing tights can actually cause havoc with your unwaxed hairy legs! The friction and static that comes from the material of the tights will rub against your skin all day, causing irritation and unhappy hair follicles! Take care of your skin all year round - it's very delicate, particularly Winter!
We hope that we have managed to convince you that it is worth keeping up your waxing routine over Winter. Or if you are considering waxing for Summer next year, by beginning now! You will only reap the benefits from doing so and your waxing results next Summer will be totally worth it! What are you waiting for? Book in today and get your skin ready for Summer now!

Intimate waxing is no longer the taboo subject it previously once was. Although waxing has been around for quite some time now - the norm for waxing was typically legs and underarms! However, intimate waxing has become the trend everyone is following for the last few years! As you may or may not know, there are various bikini waxes that exist. They are known as the: Basic Bikini, Extended Bikini, Brazilian, The Ibiza and Hollywood. But what is the difference between each wax you're asking?
We will explain each individual style of wax as well as how long you should expect each wax to last. For intimate waxing, we use Perron Rigot hot wax to make your waxing experience as quick and as pain free as possible!
This is the perfect kind of wax for a first time waxer and a general tidy up. This is simply a tidy up around the sides of your bikini area. You do not need to remove your underwear for a basic bikini wax. The hair is removed from what is outside of the pant line. As this is a basic wax it should take no more than ten to fifteen minutes and is pretty painless.
Like the basic bikini, you need not remove your underwear for this wax. This is very similar to a basic, however the extended bikini removes hair a little further in from the bikini line, the top of the bikini and a little of the hair from underneath. Typically, this kind of wax should last around 15-20 minutes and is relatively pain free also!
The Ibiza is the perfect wax for your holiday - summer or winter! It is simply an extended bikini wax, which also removed all the hair from the buttocks. The average time for an Ibiza wax varies from client to client, however it should last no longer than twenty to thirty minutes.
A Brazilian wax is slightly more daring than an extended bikini wax. This is where all the hair is removed from both the bikini and buttocks, with a landing strip of hair left. This is a great wax to build yourself up to a Hollywood wax. This kind of wax should last no longer than thirty minutes. It is a little more painful than a basic and extended bikini, however it is certainly not intolerable. A painkiller an hour before your appointment is always an option if you feel this is something that would help ease the pain! You will be required to take your underwear off for a Brazilian, so be prepared!
A Hollywood wax is everything off. That's right - zero hair left on your bikini at all! All hair from the bikini and buttocks is removed completely. It goes without saying that this type of wax will require you to remove your underwear. The average time for a Hollywood is around twenty to thirty minutes - depending on your hair. If you are a regular bikini waxer, the hair will be much finer and therefore much easier to come out. If you are a first time waxer you can expect your appointment to last a little longer. The more frequent you wax, the quicker and easier the hair can be removed at your next appointment.
The type of bikini wax you choose is completely personal and up to you - everyone is different and likes different styles and trends. We hope this blog has helped you differentiate between each kind of wax. Even if you are a regular waxer, it's never too late to change things up!

Myths about waxing: true or false??
Today, waxing is becoming increasingly popular for both female and male. Waxing is a great way to temporarily remove hair from any area in which you wish in comparison to shaving. However, we are aware there are perhaps a few misconceptions that exist about waxing, leaving many people wondering if they should go ahead and book their first ever wax appointment! We will try to clear up these misconceptions by explaining exactly what to expect before, during and after your wax appointment.
One of the most common myths about waxing is that the pain is so bad it cannot be tolerated. This is false!! It goes without saying that waxing will cause some pain - the hair is removed being from the follicle after all. The pain will vary from person to person as everyone has a different pain threshold, however the pain of waxing, in particular a bikini wax, is nowhere near as bad as some people often make out. The pain of removing the wax from your skin lasts only a few seconds and is definitely manageable - even for those with a lower pain threshold. When it comes to bikini waxes, some people find that getting their eyebrows waxed is much more painful! This may be difficult to believe but trust us - it's really not as bad as some people make out! The more frequent you wax, the thinner the hair becomes, allowing the wax to pull the hair out much quicker and easier which means it does become less painful overtime.
Another misconception with reagrds to waxing is that waxing acts as an exfoliant for your skin. This is false. Although waxing will remove some of the dead cells from your skin, it will not completely exfoliate your skin. We would always recommend exfoliating the day or night before your wax appointment as well as in between your visits to the salon. As mentioned in our previous blog, this will allow for a much closer wax with longer lasting results!
Many people believe the myth that 'shaving between wax appointments is okay'. This is also false!! It is in fact the exact opposite - trust us! Shaving in between waxing sessions can cause more problems than you would think! Shaving may cause ingrown hairs and irritation to the skin. This will result in less effective results at after your next wax, as the hair may be thicker and will be growing at different rates! It's time to say goodbye to your razor forever - waxing will slowly but surely become your go to for hair removal in no time!
"You need to grow your hair really long before you can get waxed". This is not necessarily true. Although the hair must be long enough to get waxed, we always recommend that the hair be the length of a single grain of rice - regardless if this is the hair on your legs, underarms or bikini area. Ideally, you should stop all hair removal between 4-6 weeks prior to your wax appointment to allow the hair to grow to a length that the wax will adhere to - trust us, you'll thank us later!!
Now that you know the real truth about waxing, we hope you can confidently go ahead and book your first wax appointment. If you have any more questions or myths you may have heard which we have not covered, please feel free to get in touch with us and we will help you out with any queries you may have!

Waxing is one of the best methods of achieving smooth hair-free skin without the use of razors or hair removal creams, and lets face it, one of the smoothest ways too!! As waxing is becoming increasingly popular not just for going on holiday, but for all year round, we know many people are unsure if they are required to do anything before and/or after their appointment to get the best results. We will give you a few of our top tips to get the best result from your wax...
1. Avoid Shaving:
One of the most important things to do prior to your waxing appointment is to NOT SHAVE!! This goes for everyone regardless of the area you are getting waxed. Shaving 4-6 weeks prior to your wax will mean your the hair may not be long enough to be completely taken from the follicle. Avoiding shaving in between wax appointments will also mean the hair will grow back much slower and finer! This means you will get to enjoy smooth and hair-free legs for much longer, which is exactly what you want! Shaving in between your wax appointments may also cause irritation to your skin.
Exfoliation is one of the key tips to preparing your skin prior to any wax! By not exfoliating, there is a build up of dead skin and dirt on the top layer of your skin. This can prevent the wax from taking to your skin in the way it should normally had you exfoliated before your waxing appointment. It may also cause some hairs to be left behind as they have not completely stuck to the wax, meaning you may not get as long out of your wax as you should. Exfoliating the day/night before your waxing appointment is highly recommended to remove any dirt and dead skin that may be on your skin!
We also highly recommend exfoliating in between your wax appointments to keep any dead skin cells and dirt away, preventing build up for a much closer wax the next time you come to your appointment.
3. Keep your skin hydrated:
You will beneifit greatly from keeping your skin hydrated after your wax and inbetween appointments! Moisturising daily will keep your skin smooth, hydrated and give your skin that healthy glow all year round! Without moisturiser your skin will appear dull and dry which is never a good look - particularly in the summer months where you may be more inclinded to have your legs out - weather permitting of course!
We hope this has helped answer any questions about what the best care is both before and after for your waxing, wether you are a first time or regular waxer. If you have any questions feel free to drop us a message, email or you can ask us the next time you are down at the salon!

Ingrown hairs can happen to anyone at anytime and at any point in life - in particular if you are someone who waxes. With living such busy and hectic lives where trying to balance work/studying and having a social life can seem impossible, we understand that to ask us about ingrown hairs may not always be the first thing you'll remember when you are here at the salon for your appointment!
We are here to share our knowledge with you on what ingrown hairs are and why we get them, the best way to tackle them and how to minimise your chances of ending up with any!
So what exactly are ingrown hairs?
As the name suggests, ingrown hairs are those which have curled round and managed to grow back on themselves into the skin, or have grown sideways and been unable to ever actually come out of the skin. They have the appearance and texture of a small raised spot, normally with puss inside. Often enough these small red spots can become infected and irritate us - definitely not what you want after dedicating so much time to waxing!!
What is the cause?
There are numerous factors as to why we can suffer and develop these problematic little hairs. One of the main factors of ingrown hairs is that your hair follicles may be clogged. A follicle is the small holes in your skin where the hair grows from. These follicles can become clogged up with dead skin, resulting in the hair being unable to grow upward and outward - which is exactly what we want!
There are a number of other factors which can contribute to the cause of these pesky ingrown hairs. If your hair is coarse or naturally curly, you may find ingrown hairs a more common problem due to the hair automatically wanting to curl back on itself and grow into your skin.
What should I do when I have an ingrown hair?
The best thing to do when you come across an ingrown hair is to leave it be. As tempting as it may be, do not touch or squeeze the spot - this may cause an infection as the skin will be more prone to them at this point in time. You may gently exfoliate the skin to help remove any dead skin, but make sure you take care when doing so.
How can I prevent and deter an ingrown hair?
The best way to prevent an ingrown hair that we would recommend is to exfoliate the affected area. Exfoliation will remove the dead skin cells from the top layer of your skin which will reduce the likelihood of them appearing on your skin!
We recommend using Aloe Clear Ingrown Solution. We stock this in the salon, and is great for use after waxing! It contains a unique ingredient combination of Aloe Vera, willow bark and multi fruit acids which are great for giving your skin the hydration it needs!
We hope we have managed to share and pass on our knowledge of ingrown hairs onto you! If you have any more questions feel free to drop us a message or just ask the next time you are in for your appointment - we'll be more than happy to answer all questions - ingrown hair related or not!

This is how it all began. The work on the shop started late October and it is incredible to see it change everyday in some way. To see the plans and thoughts become real in front of you. We really want to create a relaxing space where a treatment that lets be honest isn't going to be as relaxing as a massage or facial but we are going to try our best to make it more enjoyable. We also want everyone to feel welcome and comfortable. Especially as our main treatment is intimate waxing it can be so scary going somewhere new or trying it for the first time so we never want anyone to feel more scared because of the environment of the salon not being friendly. Keep your eyes peeled we will reveal more of the works soon! Love Ash xx
