Myths about waxing: true or false?? Today, waxing is becoming increasingly popular for both female and male. Waxing is a great way to temporarily remove hair from any area in which you wish in comparison to shaving. However, we are aware there are perhaps a few misconceptions that exist about waxing, leaving many people wondering if they should go ahead and book their first ever wax appointment! We will try to clear up these misconceptions by explaining exactly what to expect before, during and after your wax appointment. Myth 1: One of the most common myths about waxing is that the pain is so bad it cannot be tolerated. This is false!! It goes without saying that waxing will cause some pain - the hair is removed being from the follicle after all. The pain will vary from person to person as everyone has a different pain threshold, however the pain of waxing, in particular a bikini wax, is nowhere near as bad as some people often make out. The pain of removing the wax from your skin lasts only a few seconds and is definitely manageable - even for those with a lower pain threshold. When it comes to bikini waxes, some people find that getting their eyebrows waxed is much more painful! This may be difficult to believe but trust us - it's really not as bad as some people make out! The more frequent you wax, the thinner the hair becomes, allowing the wax to pull the hair out much quicker and easier which means it does become less painful overtime. Myth 2: Another misconception with reagrds to waxing is that waxing acts as an exfoliant for your skin. This is false. Although waxing will remove some of the dead cells from your skin, it will not completely exfoliate your skin. We would always recommend exfoliating the day or night before your wax appointment as well as in between your visits to the salon. As mentioned in our previous blog, this will allow for a much closer wax with longer lasting results! Myth 3: Many people believe the myth that 'shaving between wax appointments is okay'. This is also false!! It is in fact the exact opposite - trust us! Shaving in between waxing sessions can cause more problems than you would think! Shaving may cause ingrown hairs and irritation to the skin. This will result in less effective results at after your next wax, as the hair may be thicker and will be growing at different rates! It's time to say goodbye to your razor forever - waxing will slowly but surely become your go to for hair removal in no time! Myth 4: "You need to grow your hair really long before you can get waxed". This is not necessarily true. Although the hair must be long enough to get waxed, we always recommend that the hair be the length of a single grain of rice - regardless if this is the hair on your legs, underarms or bikini area. Ideally, you should stop all hair removal between 4-6 weeks prior to your wax appointment to allow the hair to grow to a length that the wax will adhere to - trust us, you'll thank us later!! Now that you know the real truth about waxing, we hope you can confidently go ahead and book your first wax appointment.
