Intimate waxing is no longer the taboo subject it previously once was. Although waxing has been around for quite some time now - the norm for waxing was typically legs and underarms! However, intimate waxing has become the trend everyone is following for the last few years! As you may or may not know, there are various bikini waxes that exist. They are known as the: Basic Bikini, Extended Bikini, Brazilian, The Ibiza and Hollywood. But what is the difference between each wax you're asking?
We will explain each individual style of wax as well as how long you should expect each wax to last. For intimate waxing, we use Perron Rigot hot wax to make your waxing experience as quick and as pain free as possible! Basic Bikini: This is the perfect kind of wax for a first time waxer and a general tidy up. This is simply a tidy up around the sides of your bikini area. You do not need to remove your underwear for a basic bikini wax. The hair is removed from what is outside of the pant line. As this is a basic wax it should take no more than ten to fifteen minutes and is pretty painless. Extended Bikini: Like the basic bikini, you need not remove your underwear for this wax. This is very similar to a basic, however the extended bikini removes hair a little further in from the bikini line, the top of the bikini and a little of the hair from underneath. Typically, this kind of wax should last around 15-20 minutes and is relatively pain free also! Ibiza: The Ibiza is the perfect wax for your holiday - summer or winter! It is simply an extended bikini wax, which also removed all the hair from the buttocks. The average time for an Ibiza wax varies from client to client, however it should last no longer than twenty to thirty minutes. Brazilian: A Brazilian wax is slightly more daring than an extended bikini wax. This is where all the hair is removed from both the bikini and buttocks, with a landing strip of hair left. This is a great wax to build yourself up to a Hollywood wax. This kind of wax should last no longer than thirty minutes. It is a little more painful than a basic and extended bikini, however it is certainly not intolerable. A painkiller an hour before your appointment is always an option if you feel this is something that would help ease the pain! You will be required to take your underwear off for a Brazilian, so be prepared! Hollywood: A Hollywood wax is everything off. That's right - zero hair left on your bikini at all! All hair from the bikini and buttocks is removed completely. It goes without saying that this type of wax will require you to remove your underwear. The average time for a Hollywood is around twenty to thirty minutes - depending on your hair. If you are a regular bikini waxer, the hair will be much finer and therefore much easier to come out. If you are a first time waxer you can expect your appointment to last a little longer. The more frequent you wax, the quicker and easier the hair can be removed at your next appointment. The type of bikini wax you choose is completely personal and up to you - everyone is different and likes different styles and trends. We hope this blog has helped you differentiate between each kind of wax. Even if you are a regular waxer, it's never too late to change things up! The Girls @ Waxology xx

Myths about waxing: true or false?? Today, waxing is becoming increasingly popular for both female and male. Waxing is a great way to temporarily remove hair from any area in which you wish in comparison to shaving. However, we are aware there are perhaps a few misconceptions that exist about waxing, leaving many people wondering if they should go ahead and book their first ever wax appointment! We will try to clear up these misconceptions by explaining exactly what to expect before, during and after your wax appointment. Myth 1: One of the most common myths about waxing is that the pain is so bad it cannot be tolerated. This is false!! It goes without saying that waxing will cause some pain - the hair is removed being from the follicle after all. The pain will vary from person to person as everyone has a different pain threshold, however the pain of waxing, in particular a bikini wax, is nowhere near as bad as some people often make out. The pain of removing the wax from your skin lasts only a few seconds and is definitely manageable - even for those with a lower pain threshold. When it comes to bikini waxes, some people find that getting their eyebrows waxed is much more painful! This may be difficult to believe but trust us - it's really not as bad as some people make out! The more frequent you wax, the thinner the hair becomes, allowing the wax to pull the hair out much quicker and easier which means it does become less painful overtime. Myth 2: Another misconception with reagrds to waxing is that waxing acts as an exfoliant for your skin. This is false. Although waxing will remove some of the dead cells from your skin, it will not completely exfoliate your skin. We would always recommend exfoliating the day or night before your wax appointment as well as in between your visits to the salon. As mentioned in our previous blog, this will allow for a much closer wax with longer lasting results! Myth 3: Many people believe the myth that 'shaving between wax appointments is okay'. This is also false!! It is in fact the exact opposite - trust us! Shaving in between waxing sessions can cause more problems than you would think! Shaving may cause ingrown hairs and irritation to the skin. This will result in less effective results at after your next wax, as the hair may be thicker and will be growing at different rates! It's time to say goodbye to your razor forever - waxing will slowly but surely become your go to for hair removal in no time! Myth 4: "You need to grow your hair really long before you can get waxed". This is not necessarily true. Although the hair must be long enough to get waxed, we always recommend that the hair be the length of a single grain of rice - regardless if this is the hair on your legs, underarms or bikini area. Ideally, you should stop all hair removal between 4-6 weeks prior to your wax appointment to allow the hair to grow to a length that the wax will adhere to - trust us, you'll thank us later!! Now that you know the real truth about waxing, we hope you can confidently go ahead and book your first wax appointment. If you have any more questions or myths you may have heard which we have not covered, please feel free to get in touch with us and we will help you out with any queries you may have! The Girls @ Waxology xx Waxing is one of the best methods of achieving smooth hair-free skin without the use of razors or hair removal creams, and lets face it, one of the smoothest ways too!! As waxing is becoming increasingly popular not just for going on holiday, but for all year round, we know many people are unsure if they are required to do anything before and/or after their appointment to get the best results. We will give you a few of our top tips to get the best result from your wax...
1. Avoid Shaving: One of the most important things to do prior to your waxing appointment is to NOT SHAVE!! This goes for everyone regardless of the area you are getting waxed. Shaving 4-6 weeks prior to your wax will mean your the hair may not be long enough to be completely taken from the follicle. Avoiding shaving in between wax appointments will also mean the hair will grow back much slower and finer! This means you will get to enjoy smooth and hair-free legs for much longer, which is exactly what you want! Shaving in between your wax appointments may also cause irritation to your skin. 2. Exfoliate: Exfoliation is one of the key tips to preparing your skin prior to any wax! By not exfoliating, there is a build up of dead skin and dirt on the top layer of your skin. This can prevent the wax from taking to your skin in the way it should normally had you exfoliated before your waxing appointment. It may also cause some hairs to be left behind as they have not completely stuck to the wax, meaning you may not get as long out of your wax as you should. Exfoliating the day/night before your waxing appointment is highly recommended to remove any dirt and dead skin that may be on your skin! We also highly recommend exfoliating in between your wax appointments to keep any dead skin cells and dirt away, preventing build up for a much closer wax the next time you come to your appointment. 3. Keep your skin hydrated: You will beneifit greatly from keeping your skin hydrated after your wax and inbetween appointments! Moisturising daily will keep your skin smooth, hydrated and give your skin that healthy glow all year round! Without moisturiser your skin will appear dull and dry which is never a good look - particularly in the summer months where you may be more inclinded to have your legs out - weather permitting of course! We hope this has helped answer any questions about what the best care is both before and after for your waxing, wether you are a first time or regular waxer. If you have any questions feel free to drop us a message, email or you can ask us the next time you are down at the salon! The Girls @ Waxology xx |
